Ownership

The transferable rights holder of a Truestamp item, either a single user or a team, that every rights decision (read, update, redact, restore, delete, reassign) is authorized against; ownership can change hands without altering any hash, so an existing proof stays valid across transfers.

Overview

Ownership is the transferable answer to “who has rights over this item right now?” The owner is either a single user or a whole team, and it is the one thing every rights decision keys off, never authorship. Reading and updating an item are open to its owner and to the admins and owners of its team, and reassigning it is reserved for those team admins and owners. Redacting or restoring its contents, scheduling, cancelling or expediting its deletion, and destroying it before it is committed follow ownership alone: a user-owned item’s rights stay with that user, and a team-owned item’s with the team’s admins and owners. The one exception is redaction: a Truestamp system administrator who is also an admin or owner of the item’s team can redact or restore a user-owned item too. Each team picks a default owner for newly submitted items through its ownership model, either creator retains (the submitter owns their items, the default) or team retains (the team owns them). Because no ownership or authorship field participates in any of the item’s hashes, transferring ownership never invalidates a proof. See item ownership vs authorship for the full model and the item lifecycle for how deletion and membership changes route items by owner.
