Block (Truestamp block)

A minute-cadence unit of Truestamp's internal ledger: a Merkle tree over the item hashes and entropy observations collected in that window, hash-chained to the previous block and Ed25519-signed, created finalized and transitioning to committed once an epoch commitment covers it.

Overview

A block is one unit of Truestamp’s internal ledger. Produced on a roughly one-minute cadence whenever items or entropy observations are waiting, a block records the root of a single Merkle tree built over the item hashes and entropy observation hashes collected in that window, is chained to the previous block by hash, and is Ed25519-signed. A block is created directly in the finalized state and transitions to committed when at least one public-blockchain commitment, made through an epoch, covers it; that step is Block Commitment. Placing an item’s hash as a leaf in a block’s Merkle tree is Item Commitment; the two events are contrasted in Item Commitment vs Block Commitment. The hash of a finalized block is also published as a public randomness beacon.
