Item Commitment

The first Truestamp commitment event: an item's item_hash becomes a Merkle-tree leaf in a finalized block, recorded with a compact inclusion proof, moving the item to the committed state and proving it was submitted within that block's submission window.

Overview

Item Commitment is the first of Truestamp’s two commitment events: an item’s item_hash becomes a leaf in the Merkle tree of a finalized Truestamp block. The inclusion is recorded with a compact Merkle inclusion proof, and the item transitions to its committed state, as described in the item lifecycle. Item Commitment proves the item was submitted within the block’s submission window, but it says nothing about public blockchains; the external witness comes later, from Block Commitment. Both events, and why a complete proof needs both, are covered in Item Commitment vs Block Commitment.
