Bitcoin

A public proof-of-work blockchain Truestamp uses two ways: new Bitcoin block hashes are captured as entropy observations, and epoch roots are committed into a transaction OP_RETURN output, appearing in proof bundles as cx entries with type code 41 and net regtest, testnet, or mainnet.

Overview

Bitcoin is a public proof-of-work blockchain that Truestamp uses in two independent roles. As an entropy source, each new Bitcoin block hash is captured as an entropy observation that joins a Truestamp block’s Merkle tree, evidence that nothing in that block could have been submitted before the Bitcoin block existed (see external entropy sources). As a commitment chain, epoch roots are recorded in a Bitcoin transaction’s OP_RETURN output as part of Block Commitment, covered in the epoch and Block Commitment. In a proof bundle, a Bitcoin commitment is a cx entry with type code 41 and a net of regtest, testnet, or mainnet, carrying the block height, txid, OP_RETURN value, txoutproof, raw transaction, and epoch proof. Bitcoin commitments confirm more slowly than Stellar ones.
