Item visibility
The per-item read scope - private (default; only the item's user-owner plus the owning team's admins and owners), team (any member of the owning team), or public (readable by anyone, including anonymous visitors); visibility controls who can read an item, ownership controls who can change it.
Overview
Every item carries a visibility setting that controls who may read it; who may change it is a separate question answered by ownership. The three values are private (the default), where the item is readable only by its user-owner; team, where any member of the owning team may read it; and public, where anyone may read it: anonymous visitors can find and view a public item through the public search and verification pages. Independently of the setting, the owning team’s admins and owners can read all items in their team. Visibility can be chosen when the item is submitted (defaulting to private) and is one of the item’s few mutable fields (alongside its tags and team), so changing it never touches the item’s hashes or proof. See the item lifecycle for the states an item moves through and scope and tenancy for teams for how team membership works.
